Controls Self-Assessment

The University of Florida fiscal and administrative structure is based on a decentralized model. Within this structure, the deans, directors, and department heads are responsible for unit procedures, and internal controls. The internal controls should be designed to promote the achievement of the unit’s objectives, to safeguard assets and to promote the efficient and accurate processing of transactions in compliance with applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures. To assist units in evaluating their internal controls and to increase the understanding of those controls, we have developed a self-assessment survey. The survey consists of questions, answerable as "Yes/No/Not Applicable and Not Sure," in the following nine major areas:

  1. Control Environment
  2. Budgeting, Accounting, and Financial Reporting
  3. Collections, Deposits, and Cash Funds
  4. Purchasing and Disbursements
  5. Asset Management
  6. Payroll
  7. Human Resource Management
  8. Research Management and Support
  9. Information Technology
